Helicopter flights again suspended in North Sea

(4/22/2010 - OGI: London) The UK National Air Traffic Service and Norway's Avinor have again suspended helicopter flights to parts of the UK and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea.
UK NATS said today that there is a no-fly zone over parts of Scottish airspace which means that helicopter flights from Aberdeen to oil and gas platforms are grounded at this time due to the danger from the volcanic ash cloud drifting over the area from Iceland. It said that the situation is dynamic and may change at any time, that it continues to monitor the latest Met Office information.

Latest eruption ash plume movement.

Norway's Avinor said in a similar advisory that helicopter flights to Norway's oil and gas platforms have also been suspended today due to the ash.
The crew change helicopter shuttles to and from offshore platforms and rigs in the North Sea were permitted on Tuesday afternoon, but were grounded again yesterday afternoon. There has been no impact on production, and some offshore workers are being ferried back and forth aboard offshore supply boats and cargo vessels.
